A firestorm on Mt. Tam . . . fierce winter storms and flooding . . . a major earthquake. Mill Valley has seen each of these disasters before, and inevitably will see them again. More than a motto, “Be Prepared” should be a way of life for all of us living in the Bay Area, where the U.s. Geological Survice has predicted a 65% chance of a major earthquake in Marin within the next 30 years. We are proud that Troop 1 is ready to assist our community and our families in the event of such an emergency. All members of the troop are required to earn the First Aid merit badge, and we participate in Marin Council's annual First Aid Meet to practice our skills in realistically simulated scenarios. Also, many troop members have taken part in Marin County's CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) training and are trained to help their neighborhoods in a variety of emergency situations, including floor, earthquake, fire and storms. Finally, we regularly practice the troop's mobilization plan so that we can quickly get the word out to all troop members and their families in the event of an emergency.
